About Omar
Omar Muñoz
As an engineer, Omar spent more than 15 years working in Oaxacan communities, where he came to understand the profound role mezcal plays in everyday life. Through these experiences, he developed not only a passion for mezcal itself, but especially for the people and families who preserve the traditions behind it.
Over the years, Omar has specialized in different areas related to agave distillates, combining cultural knowledge with technical and scientific education. His studies and certifications include Mezcal Brand Management and Development from Universidad Anáhuac, certifications in International Trademark Registration and Appellations of Origin from WIPO, certification as a Taster of Mexican Distillates with Denomination of Origin from Universidad del Valle, the WSET Systematic Approach to Spirits Analysis with distinction, and training as a Master Distiller and Sensory Analyst through CIATEJ, among others.
Today, Omar offers educational experiences, tastings and consulting focused on mezcal, particularly in the development, positioning, and cultural understanding of mezcal brands. Through Gracias Oaxaca, he seeks to create meaningful connections between visitors, producers, and the communities that keep mezcal culture alive.
